Docker mounted a volume, but it shows empty in host

Question

I have a somewhat unusual problem with a mounted volume using docker-compose.

My current directory structure

Parent
  file-1
  file-2
  directory-1
  Docker
    local-dev
       docker-compose.yml

When I run docker-compose, I download a directory in Parent->Docker, so the Docker directory becomes the following

Docker
    docker-compose.yml
    directory-1

My docker-compose.yml looks like this

  php:
    env_file:
      - .env
    build:
      context: .
    volumes:
       - ./directory-1:/opt/directory-1
       - ../..:/opt/directory-1/parent-directory

When I ssh into the docker container, parent-directory shows file-1, file-2, and directory-1 from the parent as expected. When I cd to parent-directory in the host, the directory is empty.

Is this expected or did I configure something wrong?
